After sadly leaving Saboba on Saturday, we drove for 6 hours to Mole National Park. We enjoyed an early morning walking safari- we saw an old elephant and a family of monkeys, antelope, warthogs, and many birds. We stayed at the hotel in the park and enjoyed their pool and local food (banku, groundnut soup, jollof rice) in the afternoon. When we first arrived, the staff were trying to get a baboon out of a tour bus- it was frustrated inside and cracked the windshield. Eventually the driver was found and they remotely opened the doors- it flew out after a couple anxious minutes.
Monday we drove over 700km from Mole to Accra. The drive was long and trying- our driver 'Big Man' was our hero. We started at 4:45am, stopped for breakfast and 'to pay the water bill', but drove untill 7:15pm. The roads were rough- often under construction, dusty, and pothole-ridden. We sadly left Joe, Bryn, and Dr. Morris, but were welcomed to Accra warmly by Vivian and Kofi.
Today we visited the University of Ghana in Legon and toured one of the virology labs. It is a big, beautiful campus on the North side of the city- we were very impressed by the groomed grounds and expansive buildings that house over 40,000 students. Tomorrow we hope to meet with some medical staff of APM and tour the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Thanks for reading! We will cross the Atlantic this Thursday night and start school Monday.
